xxxxxxBefore staging a grand concert, the Concert Master must see to it that the repertoire to be presented is clear to the members of the orchestra, to enable them to execute the right keys and chords, observe proper tempo and give life to the different masterpieces as conceptualized by the composers. To perfect their craft, the musicians need a lot of preparation in analyzing the contents of the musical pieces and interpreting them using their instruments.
Similarly, the Members of M.I. Class 1962 spent more than a year of planning, implementing and monitoring, in coordination with our classmates overseas, to prepare for the much awaited M.I. Class 1962 Grand Alumni Homecoming which was held on February 24, 2007 at the Meycauayan College Quadrangle in Calvario, Meycauayan, Bulacan. The group adopted the motto “More Alive at 45” to stress the need to enliven the spirit and to continue preserving the cohesive atmosphere among the members. The formal registration which started as early as 2:00 P.M. turned out into a riot when the group tried to outdo each other in recalling the names of the coming members of the class. It was pure fun but mentally stressful at times. Each member was given a loot bag containing memorable souvenirs like t-shirt with M.I. Logo, Mimeograph copies of M.I. March, 1962 Graduation Song, etc., CD containing popular music of the 1960s and the Alumni Homecoming Souvenir Program.
The program started promptly with the Thanksgiving Mass officiated by our first Religion teacher in M.I., Msgr. Pablo Reyes. Though retired from his Ministry, he was still full of vigor and wit. It was followed by a short merienda consisting of native delicacies like Bibingka, Puto Bumbong, Sago and Gulaman and Ice Cream with cheese, coconut and vanilla flavors to the delight of our classmates from overseas. The short snack was followed by group pictures per section and the whole Batch ’62. It took some few hours before the program proper commenced since almost everybody were busy refreshing their memories of their high school days and updating each other of their families, circle of friends and activities that kept them preoccupied all these years.
An invocation was delivered by Luisa Filoteo Olermo, Romulo Padilla and Rodolfo Certeza who came from three different religious sects. A prayer was likewise offered for the departed ’62 alumni by Herminia Origen Bansuelo. Arsenia Santiago Ponciano led in singing of the National Anthem. The presence of alumni specifically those coming distant provinces like Isabela, Nueva Ecija and overseas were acknowledged by Zenaida Gutierres Perez and Thelma Galicia Salvador while for our esteemed guests like our well respected mentors, municipal and provincial officials were done by Trinidad Dazo Gonzales and Herminio Del Rosario. Angel Laurel, Jr. led in reciting the Class ’62 Alumni Pledge.
A number of heartwarming, inspiring and motivating messages were delivered by Adoracion Llenado-Garcia, Bernardino Morales, Generoso Del Rosario, Juanita Evangelista-Toledo, Erasmo Cruz and yours truly.
The surprise dance and song numbers by the selected local and overseas alumni brought the house down. Forty five years have past since they left M.I. and still the participants were able to show an impressive performance in the fields of dancing and singing.
Three overseas alumni, Julita Punzalan Cayanan, Lilia Rivero-Abano and Ricardo de Leon gave an interesting account of their memorable experiences with their mentors and friends in M.I. All the alumni were given the chance to participate in the parlor games and raffle and nobody went home empty handed.
The closing remarks was delivered by Josefina Blanco Atienza. The program would not be complete without mentioning our lively and incomparable Masters of Ceremony, Onie A. Juliano and Boyette P. Pineda.
xxxxxxJust as the audience calls for an “Encore!” after a brilliant performance by the orchestra, the Members of M.I. Class 1962 look forward to a longer and well meaning bonding comes our Golden Anniversary in the Year 2012. – Cynthia Sta. Ana-Cruz
